About

Espresso Explained is an independent site about making espresso at home. We publish practical guides on espresso machines, beans and grinding, espresso drinks and brewing technique, written for people who want better coffee from their own kitchen.

What we cover

  • Machines: how manual, semi-automatic and super-automatic machines work and what their specs mean.
  • Beans and grinding: roasts, blends, decaf and how grind size shapes a shot.
  • Drinks: what goes into each espresso drink and how to make it.
  • Technique: dialing in, pulling shots, crema and steaming milk.

How we write

Every guide is researched against primary sources: manufacturer documentation, government nutrient data such as USDA FoodData Central, published research and established brewing references. Numbers such as temperatures, ratios, brew times and caffeine content are either sourced or clearly marked as estimates, and each guide lists its sources at the end.

We do not claim hands-on testing unless we have done it. We check which questions people actually ask about a topic and answer them directly, without filler.

Corrections and updates

Coffee knowledge and products change. We review guides and show the date of the latest update at the top of each article. If you spot an error, tell us and we will check it and fix it.
